When a child is diagnosed with autism, families are handed a list of acronyms and a waitlist — and almost no way to tell one provider from another. Meanwhile, the ABA field has been reshaped by rapid consolidation and private-equity investment, and the information a family would need to understand who actually operates a clinic is scattered across federal registries, accreditation databases, and corporate filings.
ESBAP was founded in 2018, as an initiative of Special Learning, to close that gap. We gather the published record on every autism-services organization we can find — ownership, federal registration, exclusion screening, accreditation — and put it in one place, in plain language, free to every family, practitioner, school, and funding agency.
Transparency of information helps everyone: parents find providers with real capacity instead of sitting on waitlists, ethical clinicians get found, and organizations doing right by their clients can show it.
Who actually owns your provider?
Private-equity firms have acquired hundreds of ABA companies over the past decade. Ownership can shape staffing, caseloads, and clinical priorities — yet it is rarely disclosed to families. ESBAP makes it visible on every profile: 732 organizations in the directory are currently identified as private-equity backed, each disclosed plainly with its platform and sponsor where known.

Every organization in the directory carries a standing band that surfaces what the public record shows — federal registration, exclusion screening, independent accreditation, and whether the organization has claimed its own profile. Bands describe evidence; they are not a license, a certification, or a rating of clinical care.

Federal NPI registrations, HHS-OIG exclusion lists, BHCOE and CASP rosters, and ownership research — refreshed continuously across 8,553 organizations.

A deterministic, published method turns those signals into one of five standing bands — from Verified · Strong to Flagged — with the evidence behind each band shown on the profile.
